Reflexology The Theory
The feet consist of
- 26 bones
- The bones lock into 4 strong arches that carry the weight of the body
- 117 ligaments that help hold the bones together and assist in their smooth movement
- 70,000 nerve endings that loop through the organs of the body to the central nervous system
All co-ordinated movement depends upon how the body perceives and interprets its environment. An individual's foot is the first place this contact happens.
Reflexology is based upon the body having 10 longitudinal lines or zones. When the zones are clear, the energy flows freely and a state of wellbeing exists. But zones can get blocked, depleted or congested and this causes problems in related areas. Problems in the zones can be caused by
- Stress
- Bad posture
- Poor diet
- Alcohol
- Cigarettes
- Lack or exercise
- Trauma
- Injury
- Disease
Reflexology causes relaxation and produces corresponding effects in the body's organs that sit within the zones of the body. Pressure on the reflexes clears the energy pathways and the body is stimulated to achieve its own state of balance.
